Presented in this paper are the results of a study conducted to determine the effect of plasma treatment on a commonly used polyolefin plastic—high-density polyethylene—and the resulting bond strength of cyanoacrylate adhesives. This paper furthers the general understanding of the effect of plasma treatment on adhesive bond strength as predicted by the measured contact angle, and presents the effects that various treatment parameters have on both contact angle and bond strength.
