If you need a repair putty with a truly metal-like finish, try LOCTITE® EA 3471. This 2-part, non-sagging epoxy putty is easy to apply with no need for heating or welding, and can be machined, drilled, tapped or filed. It’s perfect for repairing non-structural defects in castings; making jigs and fixtures; sealing vessels, tanks and valves; resurfacing worn air seals, and filling cavitated areas. You can rely on an operating temperature range of -30°C to 105°C (-22°F to 221°F).

How to use
Remove dirt, oil, grease, etc. with a suitable cleaner, e.g. high pressure water cleaning system using Loctite® SF 7840TM (Loctite® Natural Blue® cleaner/degreaser).
Blast all surfaces to be coated with a sharp-edged angular grit to achieve a profile depth of 75 to 100 microns and a degree of cleanliness of Near White Metal (SIS SA 2½ / SSPC-SP 10); after blasting, clean the metal surfaces with a waterless cleaner, such as an IPA cleaner, and coat them before any oxidation or contamination occurs. Metal that has been in contact with salt solutions, such as seawater, should be grit blasted, high-pressure water blasted, and left for 24 hours to allow any salts in the metal to migrate to the surface, followed by a chloride contamination test; this procedure should be repeated until the chloride concentration on the surface is below 40 ppm.
FAQ
LOCTITE® EA 3471 should be stored in the unopened container in a dry location, with storage information possibly indicated on the product package labeling. Its optimal storage temperature is 8 °C to 21 °C, and storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect product properties. Material removed from containers may be contaminated during use.
The compressive strength of this product is 61.7 N/mm², measured under ISO 604, in the cured state at 25°C.
LOCTITE® EA 3471 is recommended for use in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), air seals, castings, cavitated areas, chassis, fixtures, jigs, making jigs, metal repair, powertrain, sealing vessels, seals, tanks, valves, and vessels.
