For an adhesive system that meets the UL 1203 requirements for explosion-proof electric motors, consider LOCTITE® EA E-40EXP. This 2-part, self-leveling black epoxy is typically used for potting, sealing and bonding electronic and electrical components - isolating the electrical motor from hazardous vapors and chemicals that could cause an explosion. It can be potted into horizontal volumes and will instantly flow to fill the voids. It shows minimal exothermic reaction upon curing (room temperature) with very low shrinkage.

How to use
For high-strength structural bonds, remove surface contaminants such as paint, oxide films, oils, dust, mold release agents, and all other surface contaminants, and use gloves to minimize skin contact; do not use solvents for cleaning hands.
For dual cartridges, insert the cartridge into the application gun and start the plunger into the cylinders using light pressure on the trigger. Remove the cartridge cap and expel a small amount of adhesive to ensure both sides are flowing evenly and freely, then attach the mixing nozzle to dispense the adhesive. For bulk containers, use a volumetric dispensing system to ensure the correct mix ratio and a mixing nozzle to achieve adequate mixing. Allow 24 hours at 22 °C for curing; heating up to 93 °C will accelerate curing, while maximum chemical resistance is achieved after seven days at 22 °C. The mixed product is free flowing and self-leveling, and best potting results are obtained by filling voids from the bottom upward by moving the discharge point accordingly. Keep parts from moving during cure, and position them to retain the product within the potting voids until curing is complete.
Excessive uncured adhesive can be cleaned up with ketone type solvents.

LOCTITE® EA E-40EXP should be stored in an unopened container in a dry location, as indicated on the product container labeling, with an optimal storage temperature range of 8°C to 21°C. Storage below 8°C or above 28°C can adversely affect product properties. Material removed from the container may become contaminated during use and should not be returned to the original container.
The tensile strength of this product is 66 N/mm², measured in the cured material state using the ISO 527-2 test method after curing at 25°C for 7 days.
LOCTITE® EA E-40EXP is recommended for cable sealing fittings, electric motors, lead seals, and wire conduits.
