A manufacturer of medical device CPAP machines was using a solvent for the assembly of the plastic valve components on the units. The solvent welding process was highly manual, not controlled, and resulted in high scrap rates, with defective valves not being reworkable. Additionally, the use of the solvent required special plant ventilation and handling.
