LOCTITE® 510 is a high-temperature resistant, form-in-place anaerobic-curing sealant, which forms an instant, low-pressure seal when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. Ideal for rigid flanges, especially in transmissions and motor casings. Unprimed gap-fill is 0.01" (0.25mm). Recommended for use with aluminum and steel substrates.

How to use
For gasket repair applications only: Apply LOCTITE® SF 790 to old gasket or gasket sealants and use a wood or plastic scraper to remove residues from flange surfaces. Remove burrs. It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7070 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the sealant.
For serial production make sure that surfaces are free of contaminations.
If cure speed of LOCTITE® 510 is too slow due to passive metals or low temperature (below 5°C), use LOCTITE® SF 7649 activator. Allow to dry.
Apply a continuous bead of sealant onto one flange surface. Place the bead close to the inner rim of the flange and encircle all bolt holes. Small surface scratches will be filled by the adhesive. LOCTITE® 510 can also be applied by roller onto larger flanges.
Assemble flanges and tighten bolts as soon as possible. Wipe away any excess squeeze-out, as this will not cure when exposed to air due to the sealant's anaerobic curing properties.
Disassemble bolts with standard hand tools. Use jacking-screws, cast-on bosses or recesses to lift flanges apart.
Once disassembled, apply LOCTITE® SF 790 on old sealant and use a wood or plastic scraper to remove residues from flange surfaces.
FAQ
Pre-Cut Gaskets also referred to as solid or compression gaskets are typically made of rubber, cork, metal or paper. They require the exact size and shape gasket for each seal, resulting in complex inventory management. Once assembled, the pre-cut gaskets can relax, shrink or become embrittled over time, creating leak paths and potential system failure or plant downtime. Liquid gaskets on the other hand are form-in-place gaskets and can be easily dispensed onto a infinite range of flange patterns, reducing inventory costs. Once cured, they remain leak-free over a long period of time, even when exposed to harsh chemicals and high operating temperatures and pressures. They provide a seal that won’t shrink, compress, crack or relax, eliminating the risk of potential leak paths or having to retighten over time.
Yes, Henkel anaerobic adhesives become highly resistant thermoset polymers once cured, making them suitable for a vast number of applications. Consult the online product resources or contact our technical teams for further information.
LOCTITE® silicone adhesives such as LOCTITE® SI 5920 or LOCTITE® SI 5699 have been specially formulated for high temperature engine sealing applications. However due to the very high temperatures generated in the combustion chamber care should be taken when specifying liquid gasketing materials around the cylinder head or exhaust manifold. Please consult the Henkel technical team for further advice where necessary.
All necessary H&S measures and PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements can be found on the product material safety data sheet, all of which are available via our website.
