- Description
- Technical specification
- Question & answer
For a fast return to service when backing wear metal in gyratory and cone crushers, try LOCTITE® PC 9020. This 2-part epoxy system operates under typical dry service temperatures of -30°C to 105°C (-22°F to 220°F), and eliminates the need for traditional melting or special equipment. It also has high hydrolytic stability (low water absorption), while its high volumetric stability means gaps won’t form between backing and liners or support structures.

How to use
If a bond to the substrate is desired, all metallic parts that will contact LOCTITE® PC 9020 must be free of rust, dirt, grease, and oil; if easier removal of worn liners is preferred, coat the appropriate surfaces with a release agent such as grease or light oil, and seal all gaps, hook holds, bottom joints, and protected threaded parts of shafts where necessary.
LOCTITE® PC 9020 and the substrate must be between 15 and 65 °C (60 - 150 °F) before use, as lower temperatures provide a longer working life but increase viscosity, making the material harder to pour, while higher temperatures reduce working time, making it more difficult to pour into the crusher.
Pre-mix the resin for approximately one minute, then shake the hardener thoroughly to mix its contents. While mixing the resin, add the hardener, noting that LOCTITE® PC 9020 is formulated to indicate proper mixing by a color change from yellowish-green to dark blue, with dark blue streaks appearing as the product is combined. Continue mixing until the entire pail is uniformly dark blue, scraping the sides and bottom thoroughly to ensure no yellowish-green material remains.
Pour the mixture immediately after mixing at a single location, allowing LOCTITE® PC 9020 to fill the cavity and displace air in front of it, using a dam (such as tin, cardboard, or clay) to direct flow if necessary, and ensure that any unmixed resin clinging to the sides or bottom is not poured into the crusher. Additional kits may be mixed and poured individually as needed, as LOCTITE® PC 9020 adheres to itself.
Use an approved, positive-pressure, supplied-air respirator when welding or torch cutting near cured compound. Do not use open flame on the compound.
Working time and cure of epoxies depend on temperature and mass, with higher temperatures and larger material masses accelerating curing; to speed curing at low temperatures, store the epoxy at room temperature and preheat the repair surface until warm to the touch, while to slow curing at high temperatures, mix the epoxy in small masses and cool the resin and hardener components.
FAQ
LOCTITE® PC 9020 should be stored in an unopened container in a dry location, with storage information possibly indicated on the product container labeling, and optimal storage conditions between 8°C and 21°C, because storage below 8°C or above 28°C can adversely affect product properties, material removed from containers may be contaminated during use, and liquid should not be returned to the original container.
The coverage area for this product is 13,900 cm³/L per 19 L kit and 5,576 cm³/L per 7.5 L kit, for part A and part B uncured, tested under standard application method and at ambient temperature.
LOCTITE® PC 9020 will be recommended for cone crushers, crusher repair products, and gyratory crushers, offering exceptional repair and protection solutions for mining and heavy equipment, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of crushing machinery.
