How to use
Remove dirt, oil, grease, and other contaminants with a suitable cleaner, such as using a high-pressure water cleaning system with Loctite® SF 7840™ (Loctite® Natural Blue® cleaner/degreaser). Blast all surfaces to be coated with a sharp-edged angular grit to achieve a depth of profile of up to microns and a cleanliness degree of Near White Metal (SIS SA 21⁄2 / SSPC-SP 10). After blasting, clean the metal surfaces with a waterless cleaner, such as Loctite® SF 7611™ (Loctite® Pro Strength Parts Cleaner), and apply the coating before any oxidation or contamination occurs. For metal exposed to salt solutions, such as seawater, grit blast and high-pressure water blast the surface, then leave it for 24 hours to allow any salts in the metal to sweat to the surface. Perform a chloride contamination test and repeat the procedure until the chloride concentration on the surface is below 40 ppm.
Mix the resin and hardener according to the specified mix ratios, or transfer the entire kit onto a clean, dry mixing surface and mix vigorously until a uniform color is achieved. Apply the material to the prepared surface by first forcing a thin layer deep into the substrate's texture, then immediately building up to the desired thickness. When rebuilding a shaft, machine the worn area by 3mm (0.125 in) to create a square shoulder, machine a spiral cut for mechanical keying, and apply excess product to account for shrinkage during curing. Finally, machine the surface to original dimensions prior to full cure, as the material is highly wear-resistant.
For a 6 mm (.25 in) thickness, the coverage rate will be 342 cm² (53 in²) per 0.45 kg (1 lb), excluding overthickness, repairs, etc. Any voids, pinholes, or low thickness areas in the coating should be repaired by lightly abrading, cleaning, and applying additional product.
Inspect visually for pinholes and misses immediately after application, then repeat the inspection once the coating has cured to confirm there are no pinholes, misses, or mechanical damages. Ensure the coating thickness is controlled, especially at critical points, and perform a test with a holiday detector to confirm coating continuity.
Immediately after use clean tools with suitable cleaner, e.g. Loctite® 7070™ or a solvent such as acetone or isopropyl alcohol. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically.
