Collision repair calls for tough, impact-resistant bonders like TEROSON® EP 5065 SB. This 2-part, high-strength, solvent-free, epoxy-resin based adhesive provides excellent wedge-peel strength, even at extreme temperatures of -40°C to 80°C (-40°F to 176°F). When cured, it is hard but not brittle. This makes it ideal for structural bonding of metals when crash behavior requirements are high (e.g. car body steel with or without e-coat, galvanized steel and aluminum).
For application, use a dispenser with a piston rod (e.g. TEROSON® ET DISPENSER POWERLINE II). Surface preparation with LOCTITE® SF 7611 is recommended.

How to use
Bonding surfaces must be free of oil, grease, dust, or any other contaminant. Clean bonding surfaces with any solvent base cleaner and a lint-free cloth.
Remove old adhesive (with a sander) from existing body parts to make sure they are back to bare metal and free of any contamination.
Both bonding surfaces must be cleaned again to remove grinding dust. Pretreat bonding surfaces with any solvent base cleaner. Allow the prepared surfaces to dry for approximately 5 minutes.
Unscrew the coupling ring and remove the cap from TEROSON® EP 5065 SB cartridge. Before attaching the static mixer to the cartridge, squeeze out a small amount of material until both adhesive components run equally. This is necessary to achieve a good mix of the two components.
Attach the static mixer and fix it with the coupling ring. Insert the cartridge into the application dispenser.
When mixed, TEROSON® EP 5065 SB is very dark grey in color (almost black). Discard first 5 cm of adhesive.
Apply and spread TEROSON® EP 5065 SB with a spreader or brush. All bare metal areas should be covered with adhesive for corrosion protection. TEROSON® EP 5065 SB can be used on steel and aluminum panels and as part of preparation. Before joining the spare part, apply TEROSON® MS 222 on the inside (sandwich model).
Open time for mixed adhesive (at room temperature of 73°F) is approximately 60 minutes. It may be necessary to change the static mixer if no material has been passed through it in over 30 minutes.
Remove excess adhesive immediately with spatula or cloth using any solvent base cleaner. Cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically.
Join and fix components within the 60 minutes processing time. If spot welding is required, it must be carried out during this initial period. Do not subject bonded parts to stress before final cure.
The adhesive cures at room temperature with initial strength approximately 10 hours at 73°F; final strength approximately 48 hours at 73°F. Curing time can be accelerated using common tools like infrared or heating pads (full strength in 60 minutes at 176°F). During the curing phase, avoid movement or stress until the product is fully cured.
When initial bond strength has been reached, bonded parts can be painted.
Cured product and empty cartridges are disposed of as normal waste. Uncured material has to be disposed of as hazardous waste. See Safety Data Sheet for more details.
FAQ
The substrates bonded with these adhesives, react differently when impacted. TEROSON® EP 5055 SB is a panel bonding adhesive vs TEROSON® EP 5065 SB which is an impact resistant structural adhesive. TEROSON EP 5065 SB can absorb a lot more energy and reduce the impact of a crash. An impact resistant structural bonder is usually used in joints, frame rail assemblies, strut tower assemblies and other body structure joints that have critical strength requirements. Additionally the open time (pot life) of TEROSON EP 5055 SB is 80 minutes; for TEROSON EP 5065 SB it is 60 minutes.
Both are 2-component, solvent-free, spot weldable (before the product solidifies) epoxies that prevent corrosion and give lap shear strength to bonded panels. Due to their epoxy chemistry they are temperature sensitive, therefore it is recommended to allow the product to reach ambient temperature before use.
We need to ensure even mixing of the product's 2 components to ensure proper bonding performance. Therefore, we must squeeze twice. 1) Squeeze a small amount directly from the cartridge. 2) Apply the nozzle and squeeze until you see a homogenous color in the end-product, coming through the nozzle.
OEM repair instructions should be used as guidance to select an adhesive for panel bonding or impact-resistant structural bonding. Technical requirements change due to design variations, therefore it is critical to follow OEM instructions based on model and year.
As long as you seal the cartridge correctly with the used nozzle left on, you may store the product for 2-3 weeks, depending on the temperature in the workshop. The material left in the nozzle will serve as a perfect sealant to preserve the content inside of the cartridge.
Areas bonded with metal bonders (epoxy-based), don’t require cavity wax to ensure corrosion protection. All other areas should be coated with wax to prevent corrosion.
Clamp time is the minimum time that the parts need to stay fixed if it was only bonded. Initial fixture would be the minimum time for TEROSON EP products – it is recommended that they should always be fixed during the process of curing. Fixture time for TEROSON EP 5065 SB is 10 hours, at 73°F (room temperature).
