- Question & answer
LOCTITE® SF 7649 is specially designed to promote the cure speed of LOCTITE® anaerobic adhesives and sealants without any significant loss of joint strength. Ideal for applications with passive metals or inert surfaces and with large bond gaps, it offers great performance at low cure temperatures (< 15°C / < 60°F).

How to use
It is recommended to use the correct LOCTITE® cleaner for the surface to be bonded (such as LOCTITE® SF 7070) to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the adhesive.
LOCTITE® SF 7649 can be either sprayed or brushed onto one or both mating surfaces. For smaller gaps, it is only necessary to apply the accelerator to one surface. Pourous surfaces my require two treatments of activator.
Allow the solvent carrier of the activator to evaporate off completely so that the parts are dry to the touch. The accelerator has an on-part life of 30 days. Within that window of time, the anaerobic can be applied normally.
FAQ
Henkel recommend the use of primers such as LOCTITE® SF 7649 & SF 7471 with most anaerobics where both parts are classified as "inactive" metals. These metals lack the presence of iron or copper content and thus, lack the "active" metal ions required to fully cure the anaerobic product in 24 hours. These metals include plated parts, stainless steel, galvanized steel and anodized aluminum, to name a few. If, on the other hand, both or at least one part is an "active" metal, such as plain steel, brass, bronze, copper or iron, there is no need to use a primer to ensure full cure in what is typically 24 hours at room temperature. A primer will also be helpful to accelerate the cure in colder temperatures or where there are larger gaps between the metal components.
