The packaging industry is evolving rapidly due to stricter regulations, and increased consumer demand for sustainable solutions. Bio-based materials and low-temperature adhesives are at the forefront of this transformation, setting new standards for environmental responsibility and efficiency. Henkel Adhesive Technologies now combines both technologies for the first time with Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool.

79% bio-based material

By incorporating 49% direct bio-based content combined with 30% ISCC-certified mass-balanced materials, this innovative hot melt adhesive achieves a total bio-based share of 79%. This results in up to 32% reduction in CO2 emissions on a product level, fully aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).  The calculation is based on a cradle-to-gate analysis of the product's carbon footprint, excl. the biogenic uptake, without taking into account the use phase and emissions at the end of the life cycle.

Lower application temperature reduces energy consumption

By lowering processing temperatures, Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool reduces energy consumption by up to 43%, while its low-density formula and superior bond strength deliver up to 30% less material usage. Ideal for folding cartons, trays, and wrap-around packaging, it offers a unique combination of environmental responsibility and operational efficiency, setting a new standard in sustainable packaging adhesives.

Sustainability benefits at a glance

Bio-based formulation:

  • 49% direct bio-based content: Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool reduces reliance on fossil-based resources.
  • 30% mass balanced raw material: ISSC certification to ensure traceability and transparency. Proportion of certified material used in the production process can be correctly allocated to the end product

Reduced carbon footprint:

  • CO2 Emission Reduction: A company consuming 7 tons of hot melt adhesive per year can save approximately 7,500 kg of CO2 annually, based on cradle-to-gate life cycle analysis excluding use-phase and end-of-life emissions. (in comparison with premium polyolefin hot melt)
  • SBTi-aligned carbon savings: The 32% reduction in CO2 emissions is fully aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), providing companies with a solution that supports their climate commitments.

Energy efficiency:

  • 43% lower energy consumption: By reducing application temperatures to as low as 120°C, Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool cuts energy usage, lowering operational costs and helping companies meet their sustainability goals.
  • Enhanced Operator Safety: The lower application temperatures reduce the risk of burns and significantly decrease exposure to hazardous vapors and fumes, creating a safer work environment for those handling packaging lines.

Performance and recycling:

  • Superior mileage & cost efficiency: Its uniquely formulated low-density chemistry reduces consumption s.o., resulting in material savings and greater production efficiency.
  • Recycling Compatibility: Certified by cyclos-HTP, Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool is fully compatible with the paper recycling process, ensuring it doesn’t interfere with packaging material recyclability. This supports a circular economy and promotes more sustainable packaging practices.
