Recyclab
Welcome to Henkel‘s inhouse Packaging Recyclab. We offer comprehensive recyclability assessments of fiber-based packaging materials. The results can be used to develop and improve materials towards a circular economy.
Our packaging recyclab lab helps with legal requirements related to the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation). Testing labs are crucial in meeting stricter recycling targets, promoting circular economy practices, and minimizing waste.

- Cepi/4evergreen
- Cyclos-HTP Institute (CHI)
This test method was developed by the 4evergreen cross-industry alliance to provide a future ready standard methodology for Europe proofing the recyclability of fiber based packaging in paper mills. We focus on the methodology for mills with a conventional process.
- Deliver evidence on recyclability
- Test your innovative packaging solutions
- Get a Detailed Testing report
- Book expert consultation
The CHI test protocol was developed by the independent experts of cyclos-HTP. It delivers a full report and potentially a legally binding certificate. Please note that we will perform the paper tests for the certificate, but for all further operations and testing you will be forwarded to CHI to request the test.
- Following CHI x Henkel protocol including two pulping times
- Delivers evidence and legally binding certificate by CHI (optional)
- Includes assessment of real recycling paths (sortability, contaminants etc.)
- 100% PPWR conformity
Discover more about the testing steps by interacting with the hotspots on the picture below.
Cutting the sample material into pieces of 3cm x 3cm.
Disintegrating the oven dry sample material in tap water.
The disintegrated substrate is Büchner-filtered to determine the evaporation residue.
Impurities are removed by filtration trough 5mm (coarse) and 150µm (fine) sieves to obtain rejects
The paper sheets are assessed for their visual impurities and sheet adhesion.
