Threadlockers
High-strength, general purpose threadlocker for all metal-threaded assemblies
This high-strength threadlocker permanently secures and seals bolts, nuts and studs to prevent loosening due to shock and vibration. It’s perfect for all metals, including passive substrates, and is tolerant of light coatings of rust-preventative oils and minor contamination without needing to be cleaned.

- Description
- Technical specification
When you need to permanently lock assemblies that must not come loose, LOCTITE® 270 is a great choice. This high-strength threadlocker has maximum efficacy in the securing and sealing of bolts, nuts and studs to prevent loosening due to shock and vibration. It works on all metals without the need for a surface activator or primer – including passive substrates like stainless steel, aluminum and plated surfaces – and can cure through light coatings of corrosion-prevention oils and cutting fluids without needing to clean the surfaces prior to application. The lock might be permanent, but it can still be disassembled: simply heat to 300°C (572°F) and remove while still hot.

How to use
It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7063/7064 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying adhesive.
If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals (stainless steel, aluminium and plated metals) or low temperature (below 5°C), use activator LOCTITE® SF 7240 or LOCTITE® SF 7649 (see cure speed vs activator graph in the TDS).
Apply liquid threadlocker to the engagement area. For manual dispensing the use of a peristaltic handgun is recommended to ensure a consistent application volume.
Insert bolt and apply threadlocker to the exposed thread. Assemble nut and tighten to the correct/specified torque.
Apply into lower third of blind hole.
Assemble and tighten. If several bolts are being assembled, torque them down to the correct value within the fixture.
Disassemble with standard hand tools.
If disassembly is not possible using normal hand tools, apply localized heat to approximately 250°C. Disassemble while hot.
Disassemble while hot with standard hand tools.
For the disassembly of corroded or seized parts, use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
FAQ
Prevent vibration loosening, prevent leaks, protect threaded components from corrosion and increase the reliability of mechanical fasteners by using a LOCTITE® anaerobic threadlocking adhesive.
The standard continuous operating temperature range for LOCTITE® anaerobic adhesives is -55˚C to +150˚C. Depending on the specific application requirements, high-performance grades are also available offering increased temperature resistance. Please consult with the Henkel technical team for availability and grade selection.
Yes, Henkel's anaerobic adhesives become highly resistant thermoset polymers once cured, making them suitable for a vast number of applications. Consult our online product resources or contact our technical teams for further information.
Henkel has a number of products available with varying levels of NSF® or WRAS® approval, amongst others. Please contact the Henkel sales or technical teams with your requirements.
Yes, these products are all anaerobic adhesives that will function in a similar way. Variations in the adhesive characteristics (viscosity, gap-fill, strength etc.) will make them better suited to certain applications. Consult the product technical data sheets and/or Henkel representatives for further information.
Care must be taken when using adhesives to seal against pure oxygen systems. LOCTITE® 577 and LOCTITE® 55 have BAM approval and can be considered for such applications.
All necessary H&S measures and PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements can be found on the product material safety data sheet, all of which are available via our website.
