- Description
- Technical specification
LOCTITE® 510 is a high-temperature resistant, form-in-place anaerobic-curing sealant, which forms an instant, low-pressure seal when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. Ideal for rigid flanges, especially in transmissions and motor casings. Unprimed gap-fill is 0.25 mm (0.01"). Recommended for use with aluminum and steel substrates.

How to use
Apply LOCTITE® SF 7200 or SF 790 to old gasket or gasket sealants and use a wood or plastic scraper to remove residues from flange surfaces. Remove burrs. It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7063 of SF 7070 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the sealant.
If cure speed of LOCTITE® 510 is too slow due to passive metals or low temperature (below 5°C), use LOCTITE® SF 7649 activator. Allow to dry.
Apply a continuous bead of sealant onto one flange surface. Place the bead close to the inner rim of the flange and encircle all bolt holes. Small surface scratches will be filled by the adhesive. LOCTITE® 510 can also be applied by roller onto larger flanges.
Assemble flanges and tighten bolts as soon as possible. Wipe away any excess squeeze-out, as this will not cure when exposed to air due to the sealant's anaerobic curing properties.
Disassemble bolts with standard hand tools. Use jacking-screws, cast-on bosses or recesses to lift flanges apart.
Once disassembled, apply LOCTITE® SF 7200 or SF 790 on old sealant and use a wood or plastic scraper to remove residues from flange surfaces.
FAQ
Use a LOCTITE® gasketing adhesive (silicone or anaerobic depending on your application) to: completely fill voids and surface variations; replace or augment traditional gaskets; overcome typical issues of over-torqueing bolts and gasket relaxation; as well as reducing inventory with a ‘one size fits all’ solution.
These adhesives are essentially a form-in-place (FIP) liquid gasket which cures after parts are assembled. Anaerobics are simply put 1-part adhesives that cure on active metal surfaces in the absence of oxygen in the bond line. More specifically, they are 1C methacrylate adhesives, which cure in the presence of metal and at the same time absence of air as oxygen acts as an inhibitor to this reaction. When exposed to two metal surfaces, oxygen is limited, thus allowing the chemical reaction to start , and the two surfaces are bonded together as the liquid adhesives polymerises.
Yes, Henkel anaerobic adhesives become highly resistant thermoset polymers once cured, making them suitable for a vast number of applications. Consult the online product resources or contact our technical teams for further information.
LOCTITE® Silicone adhesives such as LOCTITE® SI 5920 or LOCTITE® SI 5990 have been specially formulated for high temperature engine sealing applications. However due to the very high temperatures generated in the combustion chamber care should be taken when specifying liquid gasketing materials around the cylinder head or exhaust manifold. Please consult the Henkel technical team for further advice where necessary.

The NSF is a Public Health and Safety organization that sets and certifies standards for the development of public health standards and services that help protect the world’s food, water, consumer products and environment. The NSF Category P1 registration means that a product is acceptable for use as an adhesive (P1) in and around food processing areas, where its use is not intended for direct food contact.
