Collision repair calls for tough, impact-resistant bonders like TEROSON® EP 5065. This 2-part, high-strength, solvent-free, epoxy resin based adhesive provides excellent wedge-peel strength, even at extreme temperatures of -40°C to 80°C (-40°F to 176°F). When cured, it is hard but not brittle. This makes it ideal for structural bonding of metals when crash behavior requirements are high (e.g. car body steel with or without e-coat, galvanized steel and aluminum).
The mixed compound has a ~60-minute processing time (23°C/73°F, 50% rh) and it reaches its initial strength (0,1MPa) in ~10h at 23°C (73°F). Full cure occurs at room temperature in 48 hours; curing can be accelerated via infrared heat at 80°C (176°F) for 1 hour.
For application, please use a pneumatic or manual, dual cartridge dispenser, e.g. LOCTITE HD14 Handheld Pneumatic Dual Cartridge Dispenser (200ml, item 2693824) or LOCTITE HD14 Handheld Manual Dual Cartridge Dispenser (200ml, item 2693822). Before application, surface pretreatment with TEROSON VR 10 is recommended.

FAQ
The substrates bonded with these adhesives, give noticeable difference when exposed to an impact. TEROSON® EP 5055 is a panel bonding adhesive vs TEROSON® EP 5065 which is an impact resistant structural adhesive, i.e. it can absorb a lot more energy to slow the impact of a crash down. Impact resistant structural bonder is usually used in joints, frame rail assemblies, strut tower assemblies and other body structure joints that have critical strength requirements. The open time (pot life) of TEROSON EP 5055 is 80 minutes; for TEROSON EP 5065, 60 minutes.
Both are 2-component, solvent free, spot weldable (before the product gets solidified) epoxies that prevent corrosion and enable lap shear strength to bonded panels. Due their epoxy chemistry, they are temperature sensitive, therefore it is recommended to condition the product to ambient temperature before using.
We need to make sure there is even mixing of the product's 2 components to ensure proper bonding performance. Therefore, we need to complete 2 steps of purging: 1) Purging a small portion directly from the cartridge and, 2) Purging the material through the mixing nozzle until we see homogenous color in the end product coming through the nozzle.
OEM repair instructions should be used as guidance to select the adhesive either for panel bonding or impact resistant structural bonding, since technical requirements vary by design changes. Therefore, it is critical to follow OEM instructions based on model and year.
As long as you seal the cartridge correctly with the used nozzle left on, you may store the product for 2-3 weeks, depending on the temperature in the workshop. The material left in the nozzle will serve as a perfect sealant to preserve the content inside of the cartridge.
Metal bonders (epoxy-based) will be sufficient to ensure corrosion protection, so therefore, no wax is needed on the bonded parts.
