- Description
- Technical specification
LOCTITE® 496 is a very low viscosity, general purpose instant adhesive, which is particularly suited to bonding metal substrates. It has a fixture time of 10-30 seconds, and its very low viscosity makes it ideal for very tight gaps and close-fitting parts. It can also be used for the bonding of rubbers and plastics, including difficult-to-bond plastics (PP, PE, PTFE) when used in conjunction with a primer such as LOCTITE® SF 770.

How to use
It is recommended to use the correct LOCTITE® cleaner for the surface to be bonded (such as LOCTITE® SF 7070) to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the adhesive.
To improve adhesion on difficult to bond plastic surfaces, apply LOCTITE® SF 770 to the bond area by brushing or dipping. Avoid applying excess primer. Allow the primer to dry.
If cure speed is too slow, use activator LOCTITE® SF 7452 or LOCTITE® SF 7455 (see cure speed vs activator graph in TDS). Apply activator to one bond surface by spray, brush or dipping (not primed surfaces). Allow the activator to dry.
Apply adhesive onto one side/part.
Assemble parts immediately. The parts should be accurately located as the short fixture time leaves little opportunity for adjustment. Bond should be held or clamped until the adhesive has fixtured.Hint: if necessary, excess product can be cured by activator LOCTITE® SF 7452. Spray or drop activator onto excess product.
For precise dispensing of small amounts of adhesive, the use of dispensing needles is recommended.
FAQ
This is a result of stress cracking. Uncured liquid CA remaining on some plastic substrate (such as polycarbonate, acrylic, and polysulfone) in a stressed condition may cause the formation of cracks in the plastic. Some remedies for avoiding/minimizing stress cracking are closing the bond joint quickly, use reinforced grades of plastic, anneal parts, or speed the cure of the CA with accelerator (or light for light curing CA products only).
This is called blooming. This often occurs when there is an excessive amount of product being applied. To avoid blooming, use proper ventilation, less product, lower humidity, use a primer/accelerator, or a low bloom product.
Yes, CA’s should be stored in the refrigerator prior to opening, but DO NOT refrigerate them once they have already been opened. After opening, CA's should be used within 30 days for best performance.
