- Description
- Technical specification
LOCTITE® 406 is a low-viscosity instant adhesive designed especially for the fast bonding of plastics and rubbers. It fixes the adhering components in seconds and hardens very quickly, forming an ultra thin bond. Using the primer LOCTITE® SF 770, the assembly of difficult-to-bond (PP, PE, PTFE) materials is possible.

How to use
It is recommended to use the correct LOCTITE® cleaner for the surface to be bonded (such as LOCTITE® SF 7063/7064/7070) to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying the adhesive.
To improve adhesion on difficult to bond plastic surfaces, apply LOCTITE® SF 770 to the bond area by brushing or dipping. Avoid applying excess primer. Allow the primer to dry.
If cure speed is too slow, use appropriate activator LOCTITE® SF 7452 or LOCTITE® SF 7455 (see cure speed vs activator graph in TDS). Apply activator to one bond surface by spray, brush or dipping (not primed surfaces). Allow the activator to dry.
Apply adhesive onto one side/part.
Assemble parts immediately. The parts should be accurately located as the short fixture time leaves little opportunity for adjustment. Bond should be held or clamped until the adhesive has fixtured.
Hint: if necessary, excess product can be cured by activator LOCTITE® SF 7452 or LOCTITE® SF 7455. Spray or drop activator onto excess product.
For precise dispensing of small amounts of adhesive, the use of dispensing needles is recommended.
FAQ
Although HQ is not part of the product formula for LOCTITE® 406, trace amounts are possible due to shared manufacturing processes and/or select raw material impurities. Hence, Henkel has taken the additional step of introducing a low specification level (< 50 PPM for HQ) and each batch is now checked for this after manufacture.
Henkel has a number of products available with varying levels of NSF® and WRAS® approval, amongst others. Please contact the Henkel sales or technical teams with your requirements.
All adhesives are compatible with metal substrates although bond strength and durability will vary depending on the technology selected. Anaerobic adhesives may cause stress-cracking in some sensitive polymers and therefore should generally be avoided on plastic parts. Consult Henkel technical teams for further advice as needed.
All necessary H&S measures and PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements can be found on the product material safety data sheet, all of which are available via our website.
Yes, instant adhesives should be stored in the refrigerator prior to opening, but DO NOT refrigerate them once they have already been opened. After opening, the product should be used within 30 days for best performance.
