Extending service life and reducing maintenance frequency in iron ore mines through advanced wear repair

Iron ore mine - Loctite PC 9313
Mining site

The challenge

A leading iron ore mine in Australia experienced damage to ceramic tiles in several areas due to continuous iron ore flow at a rate of 70 tons per hour, with ore sizes around 40 mm. Replacing the tiles entirely would be costly, so the team is seeking a more economical in-situ repair solution.

LOCTITE's solution

After assessing the damage, Loctite® PC 9313 High Impact Wearing Compound was selected to rebuild the worn sections. Applied at thicknesses ranging from 6 to 12 mm, the compound restored the integrity of the affected areas, offering high resistance to both abrasion and impact. This approach minimized disruption and delivered a cost-effective, durable repair—keeping production on track without compromising long-term performance.

PC9313 application

The outcome

  • Extended Wear Life: Achieved 3X the lifespan compared to previously used solutions, significantly improving long-term performance.
  • Reduced Maintenance Frequency: Decreased the number of required repairs from 12 times to just 4 times per year, cutting labor and downtime.
  • Annual Cost Savings: Resulted in cost savings of several thousand dollars annually through reduced maintenance and extended service intervals.
