Testing methods in detail

Cepi/4evergreen

This test method was developed by the 4evergreen cross-industry alliance to provide a future-ready standard methodology for Europe for proving the recyclability of fibre based packaging in paper mills. We focus on the methodology for mills with a conventional process.

Cyclos-HTP Institute (CHI)

The CHI test protocol was developed by the independent experts at Cyclos-HTP. It delivers a full report and potentially a legally binding certificate. Please note that we will perform the paper tests for the certificate, but for all further operations and testing you will be directed to CHI to request the test.

  • Following CHI x Henkel protocol including two pulping times
  • Delivers evidence and legally binding certificate from CHI (optional)
  • Includes assessment of real recycling paths (sortability, contaminants etc.)
  • 100% PPWR conformity

Standard test: Detailed work steps

Discover more about the testing steps by interacting with the hotspots on the picture below.

Step 1: Preparation of samples

Cutting the sample material into pieces 3 cm x 3 cm.

Paper recyclability lab, step 8 of testing, comparison of paper
Step 2: Disintegration

Disintegrating the oven dry sample material in tap water.

Step 3: Filtration

The disintegrated substrate is Büchner-filtered to determine the evaporation residue.

Step 4: Screening

Impurities are removed by filtration trough 5 mm (coarse) and 150 µm (fine) sieves to obtain rejects

Step 5: Sheet inspection

The paper sheets are assessed for their visual impurities and sheet adhesion.
