- Description
- Technical specification
When you need a general-purpose thread sealant with high temperature- and contamination-tolerance, as well as effectiveness on inactive and active metals, choose LOCTITE® 577. Designed for the locking and sealing of threaded metal pipes and fittings, this product provides an instant, low-pressure seal and won't creep, shrink or shred. Perfect for use on stainless steel without the need for surface activation, it offers gap performance to 0.25 mm (0.01") and will cure even in the presence of minor surface contaminations from cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion and protection fluids, or cleaners containing surfactants and corrosion inhibitors.
Meets the performance requirements of KIWA GASTEC QA AR 214 for admixtures up to and including 100% hydrogen gas – certifications are available in select countries.

How to use
Cleaning - It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7063/7064/7070 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying adhesive.
Activation - If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals (stainless steel, aluminum and plated metals) or low temperature (below 5°C), apply activator LOCTITE® SF 7240 or LOCTITE® SF 7649 (see cure speed vs activator graph in the TDS). Allow to dry.
Apply a 360° bead to the leading male thread, leaving the first thread free. For bigger threads, apply both on male and female threads. For manual dispensing the use of a peristaltic handgun is recommended to ensure a consistent application volume.
Assemble fittings using wrench tightening in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations.
Disassemble with standard hand tools. If not possible, apply localized heat to approximately 500°F/260°C; disassemble parts while hot. For corroded or seized parts use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
FAQ
The standard continuous operating temperature range for LOCTITE® anaerobic adhesives is -55˚C to +150˚C. Depending on the specific application requirements, high-performance grades are also available offering increased temperature resistance. Please consult with the Henkel technical team for availability and grade selection.
Yes, Henkel anaerobic adhesives become highly resistant thermoset polymers once cured, making them suitable for a vast number of applications. Many Henkel silicone adhesives offer excellent resistance to standard media like water/glycol, amongst other solutions. Consult our online product resources or contact our technical teams for further information.
Henkel has a number of products available with varying levels of NSF® and WRAS® approval, amongst others. Please contact the Henkel sales or technical teams with your requirements.
All adhesives are compatible with metal substrates although bond strength and durability will vary depending on the technology selected. Anaerobic adhesives may cause stress-cracking in some sensitive polymers and therefore should generally be avoided on plastic parts. Consult Henkel technical teams for further advice as needed.
Care must be taken when using adhesives to seal against pure oxygen systems. LOCTITE® 577 and LOCTITE® 55 have BAM approval and can be considered for such applications.
All necessary H&S measures and PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements can be found on the product material safety data sheet, all of which are available via our website.
