- Description
- Technical specification
LOCTITE® 406 / LOCTITE® SF 770 is a 2-part kit for bonding polyolefins and other low-energy surfaces. LOCTITE 406 is a transparent, ethyl cyanoacrylate-based instant adhesive for plastics and elastomeric materials that require very fast fixturing. It fixes the adhering components in seconds and hardens very quickly, forming an ultra-thin bond. Its low-viscosity nature makes it highly suitable for small gaps. LOCTITE SF 770 is a low-viscosity, aliphatic amine primer for making polyolefin and other low-energy surfaces suitable for bonding with LOCTITE 406 and other LOCTITE cyanoacrylate adhesives. It's transparent to slightly hazy and fluoresces under UV light – great for quality control.

How to use
Ensure all bonding surfaces are clean and free from grease. Clean the surfaces with an appropriate LOCTITE cleaning solvent and allow them to dry completely before application.
Apply LOCTITE® SF 770 to low-energy plastic surfaces such as polyethylene, polypropylene, PTFE or thermoplastic rubber by spraying, brushing or dipping. Apply only a thin layer and avoid excess primer.
Allow the primer to dry on the substrate surface. Primer presence can be verified using a UV inspection lamp (365 nm) if required. When bonding a polyolefin to another material, apply the primer only to the polyolefin surface.
If additional cure speed is required, apply LOCTITE Activator to one bond surface and allow it to dry. Do not apply activator to a surface that has already been primed with LOCTITE® SF 770.
Apply LOCTITE® 406 to one bond surface. Do not spread the adhesive with brushes, tissues or similar tools. For best results, apply the adhesive soon after the primer has dried.
Assemble the parts within a few seconds and position them accurately. The fast fixture time provides only a limited opportunity for adjustment after assembly.
Hold or clamp the bonded parts until fixture strength is achieved. Allow the assembly to develop full strength before placing it into service, typically 24 to 72 hours after assembly.
FAQ
LOCTITE® SF 770 is a surface primer designed to make difficult-to-bond, low-energy plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, PTFE and thermoplastic rubber suitable for bonding with LOCTITE cyanoacrylate adhesives.
LOCTITE® SF 770 improves the bondability of low-energy plastics, while LOCTITE® 406 is a fast-fixturing cyanoacrylate adhesive designed for bonding plastics and elastomeric materials.
Yes. LOCTITE® 406 is specifically designed for bonding plastics and elastomeric materials where very fast fixturing is required.
The primer may be applied by spraying, brushing or dipping at ambient temperature.
Whilst handling strength is achieved in seconds, the bonded assembly should be allowed to achieve full cure before being subjected to service loads. Full strength is typically reached 24 to 72 hours after assembly, depending on materials, bond gap and ambient conditions.
