- Description
- Technical specification
LOCTITE® 272 is a red, medium viscosity, high strength, anaerobic-curing, threadlocking adhesive with high temperature resistance. It is specially designed for the permanent locking and sealing of threaded fasteners and to withstand temperatures up to 232°C (450°F). The anaerobic adhesive cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces, and prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration. Ideal for the locking and sealing of large bolts and studs.

How to use
It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7070 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying LOCTITE 272 threadlocker.
If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals (stainless steel, aluminum and plated metals) or low temperature (below 5°C), use activator LOCTITE® SF 7649 (see cure speed vs activator graph in the TDS).
Apply liquid threadlocker to the engagement area. For manual dispensing, the use of a peristaltic handgun or the LOCTITE® Pro Pump is recommended to ensure a consistent application volume.
Insert bolt and apply threadlocker to the exposed thread. Assemble nut and tighten to the correct/specified torque.
Apply several drops of liquid threadlocker down the sides of the blind hole filling the lower third. Apply several drops to the bolt.
Assemble and tighten. If several bolts are being assembled, torque them down to the correct value within the fixture.
Disassemble with standard hand tools.
If disassembly is not possible using normal hand tools, apply localized heat to approximately 250°C. Disassemble while hot.
Disassemble while hot with standard hand tools.
For the disassembly of corroded or seized parts, use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
FAQ
Prevent vibration loosening, prevent leaks, protect threaded components from corrosion and increase the reliability of mechanical fasteners by using a LOCTITE® anaerobic threadlocking adhesive.
Once fully cured, LOCTITE® 272 threadlocker can withstand temperatures from -65°F to 450°F.
Yes, LOCTITE® anaerobic adhesives and sealants become highly resistant thermoset polymers once cured, making them suitable for a vast number of applications. Consult our online product resources or contact our technical teams for further information.
Yes, these products are all anaerobic adhesives that will function in a similar way. Variations in the adhesive characteristics (viscosity, gap-fill, strength etc.) will make them better suited to certain applications. Consult the product technical data sheets and/or LOCTITE® representatives for further information.
